I wanted to write on behalf of OLD BASING ROYAL BRITISH LEGION to pass on our sincere condolences to Stan's family for the loss of such a brilliant man. I knew Stan through his visits to the RBL when I was Branch Chairman (and previously to that) when he would visit for a pint with his Gunner colleagues. We often spoke about his visits to Holland, France and Belgium because the OLD BASING CORPS OF DRUMS travelled on numerous occasions at the time for commemoration events (D-Day anniversaries at beach memorials, Pegasus Bridge etc) and though I don't recall us being there when he was, I'm sure it must have happened. To lose a man with so many achievements to his name is such a shame but you should be very proud of him and it was a privilege to have known him. I hope to attend his funeral on Monday.
