Thoughts

To our dearest Dad.. As we look back over time we find ourselves wondering . . . . Did we remember to thank you enough for all you have done for us? For all the times you were by our sides to help and support us . . . . To celebrate our successes. To understand our problems and accept our defeats? Or for teaching us by your example, The value of hard work, good judgement, courage and integrity? We wonder if we ever thanked you for the sacrifices you made. To let us have the very best? And for the simple things, Like laughter, smiles and times we shared? If we have forgotten to show our gratitude enough for all the things you did. We are thanking you now, and are hoping you knew all along, how much you meant to us. The world is an emptier place now that you have gone. We will never forget you. Thank you for every thing you did and for being my Dad. With all my love, always. Mary xxxxx

I wanted to write on behalf of OLD BASING ROYAL BRITISH LEGION to pass on our sincere condolences to Stan's family for the loss of such a brilliant man. I knew Stan through his visits to the RBL when I was Branch Chairman (and previously to that) when he would visit for a pint with his Gunner colleagues. We often spoke about his visits to Holland, France and Belgium because the OLD BASING CORPS OF DRUMS travelled on numerous occasions at the time for commemoration events (D-Day anniversaries at beach memorials, Pegasus Bridge etc) and though I don't recall us being there when he was, I'm sure it must have happened. To lose a man with so many achievements to his name is such a shame but you should be very proud of him and it was a privilege to have known him. I hope to attend his funeral on Monday. Rick Bourne- ex Chair, Old Basing RBL.
